My favorite tools and utilities...
Programming & Porting
SlickEdit:
the best editor in the market that I am aware of.
Extremely useful for development, porting, etc.
Before I used CodeWright which was another good editor for its time but,
unfortunately, the original developer Premia went out of business, and CodeWright
ended up owned by Borland who after 2 or so years discontinued it as a product.
CodeWright is now a relic of the past. So I use SlickEdit that in many respects
even better than CodeWright.
Web debugger Fiddler:
an amazingly useful debugger that intercepts all HTTP(S) traffic.
Microsoft Expression Studio:
an amazing suite of visual tools for building standard based websites, design and build
Silverlight web applications and much more.
Microsoft Visual Studio:
without any doubt the best development and debugging visual tool.
InstallShield:
an easy-to-use graphical tool for developing software installations using the underlying
Microsoft installer service. One needs to get used to it. After that, installation development
goes like a charm.Communication
Microsoft Office Outlook:
I use Outlook from almost day #1. Before I used Qualcomm's Eudora.
Now I cannot imagine living without Outlook.
Windows Live Messenger:
I like it. It never gives me any trouble in terms of post-installation damage
to the system, etc. And it is getting better and better.
Webdrive:
an extremely useful and indispensible tool. It maps a remote file server as
a local drive in the Windows Explorer allowing using the remote server from
the command line, scripts, or just as a graphical interface in the Windows
Explorer with all the copy/paste and drag 'n drop functionality. Webdrive can
connect to FTP, FTPS, SFTP, S3 and WebDAV servers.
Icewarp Merak Email Server:
a very good email server with all the anti-spam features possible.
After getting used to it and setting up everything correctly, I have zero spam.
Simple DNS Plus:
this is a much better DNS server solution compared to the Microsoft built-in DNS service.
It has a good GUI and a bunch of options that makes it amazingly flexible and easy to use at
the same time.Other Useful Utilities
WinZip:
I've been using WinZip forever and it just keeps getting better and better.
The best thing is that it fully integrates with the Windows Explorer. This
makes zipping/unzipping/viewing archive contents, etc. very quick and easy. Some Websites as Utilities
Speedtest:
tests your internet connection up and down speed.
IntoDNS:
tests your domain DNS server configuration and warns about any problems.
